Tell us a little bit about yourself ?
Hi Moms! I’m Danielle Lazarakis. I was raised in Yonkers with 2 older sisters – and later moved to Tuckahoe with my wonderful husband Michael. We had our first son, Anthony (now 10), a year later. After house hunting for nearly a year we decided on Harrison (2009) while I was pregnant with our second son, Nicholas (now 7). I distinctly remember our neighbors welcoming us with wine and sweets. It was truly heart-warming. They weren’t interested in seeing our home – just in meeting us. It gave me such a great impression of the community, real salt of the Earth people. I didn’t know a soul when we arrived – but the Harrison community has been extremely welcoming and I am grateful for all the amazing friends I have made here!
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I knew when I was little that I wanted to save lives. I would rescue and rehabilitate birds and stray cats. So when I was 33 years old I decided to apply to Veterinary School. I took night classes for inorganic chemistry and physics to complete the requirements all while I supervised (full-time) at the Lawrence Hospital’s Ultrasound department. I was all set with my application when a radiologist I worked with asked if I was sure this is what I wanted to do with my life. I went home that night and I realized it was my childhood dream not my adult one. My deepest compassion was for people.
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
God, my husband, my Dad, Mother-in-law and babysitters! There were days I needed God’s grace, other days I needed my husband’s warmth and support. My Dad, sometimes mom, mother-in-law and sitters took my place when I worked. It was a team effort at least some of the time. I feel very blessed they were there for me and my boys.
Favorite things to do with your kids?
Dance party! I have a string of colorful lights in the
kitchen, when they go on we dance! When they
were younger I used to do races around the first floor to music. It was so fun, we would laugh with heavy breathes and fall to the ground hugging. The boys could not get enough. Now we blast music, dance and sing at the top of our lungs. Once and a while I surprise them with a race. We enjoy all the community events here like it’s great to live in Harrison, open house at the police station and more.
Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization or a creative endeavor?
I do run my own business. Remedyourlife.com is a health education consulting company located here in Harrison. I was an Ultrasound Technologist for 19 years when I realized as much as I loved my patients and the work, it wasn’t enough. I was driven to do more for patients in the way of prevention and management of disease. The National Institute of Whole Health, an accredited school offers post profession programs for health care workers. I enrolled and after an amazing yet rigorous 16 months I became certified as a Health Educator, Holistic Health Coach and Health Patient Advocate. I currently see clients one-on-one as well as offer group sessions. I love what I do. I believe my whole life has been grooming and leading me to this point. Helping people reach their vision of health… It’s empowering for them and humbling for me.
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
My friends here have not only helped with my boys while I was in school but also through encouraging words. Going to school while raising two very active boys was exhausting at times. I made it through because of my love of learning, calling to do more, my supportive husband and the incredible encouragement of friends here in Harrison.
What is your favorite thing about living in Harrison?
The people! Many of which have grown up here. They take good care of Harrison, they volunteer, they help with the town and schools! They really believe in this town. And I do too, so I do my part because I believe what you put into something is exactly what comes out of it. I didn’t know much about Harrison when we came here, but I can say I am constantly moved by this community! It is great to live in Harrison!
