Where are you from originally and where do you live now?

I grew up in Massachusetts, went to college in Connecticut, and the early years of our marriage were spent in the Berkshires– I am a New Englander through and through! But we now call Mamaroneck home (and yes, my kids are Yankees fans–a reality I never thought I’d see!)

How many children do you have and what are their ages?

I have a ten year old daughter, Carolina, and an 8 year old son, Walter.

What are your favorite shops, restaurants, and things to do here in the Sound Shore?

Tell us about Everipe! What is the inspiration and story behind this amazing smoothie brand?

Everipe was born from the idea that there needs to be an easier way to eat well in this busy modern world. We all know we should be eating more whole foods, but our hectic schedules can make that feel impossible. Each of us at Team Everipe felt left behind by the health and wellness world in one way or another: from lack of time, understanding, or skill needed to turn impossible and often contradictory dietary recommendations into a reality.  So we created a product that allows consumers  to take a whole-food nutrition approach into the realities of modern life, when there’s nothing left to eat in the fridge, when there’s 5 minutes between zoom calls, or when back to back kids’ activities means there’s only 15 minutes for dinner.

Our goal was, and continues to be, to make eating well a little easier for everyone.

To do that, we use fruits and vegetables picked at peak ripeness and naturally preserved using a freeze drying process that locks in nutrition and flavor without the use of preservatives, chemicals, or stabilizers. The freeze dried produce is ground into a powder, which we mix with plant-based protein, fiber and superfoods to make our all-in-one smoothies. All you need to do is add a smoothie packet, one cup of ice and one cup of milk to a blender, and you’ve got a 10+ ingredient smoothie in less time than it takes to make a cup of coffee!  Our smoothie packets are shelf stable and last a year in your pantry.

And, of course, there is our ingredient integrity.  Every single ingredient in an Everipe smoothie is a whole food. There is no added sugar, artificial sweeteners, gums, acids, or other sneaky ingredients. Just the best of Mother Nature! And as I see it, the simplest way to guide ourselves to better health is to consume as many whole foods as possible.

What is your professional background?

I graduated from Trinity College with a degree in English and received a master’s degree in education from Boston College. I spent the early years of my career working in administration at private high schools. Once I had my kids, I took some time off to reassess. I always loved writing and pivoted to the publishing world, working up the ranks at StrollerTraffic, a twice-weekly newsletter for new and expectant moms. That ultimately led to working directly for brands on digital marketing efforts. At Everipe, I am the Chief Content Officer, where I work on social media content, influencers, partnerships, email marketing, advertising, blog, and website copy.  As a smoothie addict and health nut, I am also known to insert myself into any and all conversations on recipe development!

How do you find a balance with motherhood and work? Any tips for the rest of us moms?

I feel fortunate to have created a balance between motherhood and my career that works for me. I am being intentional using the word ‘created’ here, because I think balance needs to be approached proactively. Balance looks different for everyone, and I’m not sure there is a magic formula, but I do believe the first step is being really honest with yourself about what you want your life to look like. This means assessing everything from the nature of your career, to childcare, to even chores around the house.

How do you want motherhood to look for you? There is no wrong answer to this question, but it has to start with you–not what you think society wants you to do, or what your mentors, boss, friends or family want you to do. Once you are clear on what it is you want, own it–speak it outloud, rationalize to no one, and then work to make it happen. Your boundaries become really clear once you have your vision. Now that both my children are in school all day, my one big boundary is that I don’t schedule calls or meetings after 3PM. From 3PM-8PM is mom time! This means that occasionally I work at night after they go to bed, or sometimes I work on a weekend. (And I always have a predetermined time limit for off-hour work sessions!) But being fully present with my kids after school and cooking a family dinner are incredibly important to me and worth the sacrifice.

In my own experience with motherhood and womanhood in general, something has become clear to me and inspired me along the way: women who know that their life is a product of their intention and hard work are completely unstoppable.
