Friends of Rye Nature Center offers a variety of afterschool programs to get children outside and exploring the natural world through the changing seasons.

Forest Kindergarten utilizes a place-based philosophy as well as student-led activities to promote learning all while having fun exploring the forest. Seasonal projects will challenge children to get creative with natural materials and their surroundings.

Our immersive Wild Outside program challenges first and second graders to use their imagination, energy, tools, and teamwork to better understand our local woodlands.

Third and fourth graders in Wilderness Encounters will learn to use basic tools, make tools out of natural materials, practice wilderness skills and foraging basics, and make weekly discoveries in the changing forest.

Middle schoolers are invited to join Environmental Science Club for a seasonal exploration of Rye Nature Center. Weekly sessions will tackle local environmental problems as well as teach students how to become better stewards of the earth. Activities include survival skills, American eel monitoring, box turtle tracking, animal care, and much more.
