We had the pleasure of speaking with Kristina Gjokaj in her beautiful salon in Larchmont, NY. Where are you from originally and where do you live now?
I’m originally from Macomb Michigan and moved to New York when I was 23.
How many children do you have and what are their ages?
I have 4 kids: My daughter is 15, my sons are 13, 11, and 4.
Tell us more about Salon K! When did you open and what services do you offer?
Salon K opened in February! It’s been great meeting so many new clients/families. I’m very fortunate that my personal clients that I’ve been with here in Larchmont for nearly 19 years have followed me. Salon K was built to bring something new and fresh for Larchmont. A place to feel welcomed and luxurious from the moment you walk through the door. We wanted to add a few touches from our hot towels, to our service menu, from beverages to snacks to our exclusive Kerastase hair products/treatments that can be customized to any hair type. We are a full service salon that welcomes all ages. We love education and staying up to date with all of the latest trends!
Did you always know that you wanted to be a hair stylist?
Being a stylist is something that has been in my family for generations. I have a lot of family in Michigan that have been very successful hair stylist/ business owners and feel like it’s been a big part of my life since a young child. I’m very excited to have my own place that I can share with many other people.
What are some of your current favorite hair styles and trends?
I’m loving the bobs rights now- both straight with wispy bangs or a nice angled bob. I feel like when I cut a bob I get in my own world and won’t stop until it’s perfect. For colors- ohhhh I love them all!!!
What’s your favorite part of owning your own business?
My favorite part of owning my own business is the clients. Being a stylist touches so many lives in so many ways and I just love that. I love meeting people and making them feel and look their best. I built so many relationships over the years, that clients became as close as family. I just truly love helping people through beauty!
We love to support local! What are some of your go to spots here in the Sound Shore area?
-We are always getting our coffee from Sunshine Roasters
-All event balloons we get are from my neighbor Ballon World
-Le Steak is definitely a favorite for food
-Saujette is fabulous for clothing
-We love Rowan!
