Interview by Kelly Postiglione.
We’re beyond excited to welcome Amie Pisano to the Sound Shore Moms team as our go-to real estate expert! A Westchester native now raising her own son here, Amie will be keeping us in the know on everything happening in the local market—from real estate trends and housing updates to insider tips on buying, selling, and making the most of life in the Sound Shore area. With years of experience and a passion for helping families find their perfect home, Amie is the perfect resource for our community. In this interview, she shares what inspired her to get into real estate, her favorite family-friendly neighborhoods, and her top picks for local dining, shopping, and fun.
Where are you originally from, and where do you live now?
I’m from right here in the Sound Shore! I grew up in Rye and currently live in Harrison. My parents are also both originally from Westchester, and my grandparents lived here too.
How many children do you have, and what are their ages?
I have one son, Zander, who is 10 years old. He will be graduating from 5th grade this year. He plays and loves a ton of sports!
What inspired you to get into real estate, and how long have you been in the business?
When I graduated from college, I moved to New York City and worked in the finance industry. Over the years, I held a few different jobs but always followed the real estate market on the side. I loved seeing all kinds of homes and was a frequent open-house hopper on the weekends. The uniqueness of different spaces and imagining what they could become fascinated me.
I was also drawn to the idea of helping people find their special place to call home or invest in for financial growth. Now, after eight years in the business, I love it more every year. I’m constantly inspired to continue learning and growing my expertise so that I can be the best resource and guide possible for my clients.
How do you balance being a mom and a real estate agent? Any tips for other working moms?
Being a working mom actually enhances my sense of balance by providing personal fulfillment and focus. Real estate is a very client-focused business that can be tricky to completely unplug from, but it also offers a level of independence and flexibility that makes me feel motivated and liberated.
Ultimately, every job and work schedule has its upsides and challenges. Finding a balance that works for your unique life circumstances is key. I’ve learned that work-life boundaries, blending, and balance can mean different things to different people.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Real estate is fundamentally a relationship-based business, and I truly love meeting and getting to know so many interesting people through my work. Helping them explore and fall in love with my hometown area is incredibly fulfilling.
Being a trusted partner and guide throughout the process—especially when clients are making such a significant and emotional decision—is an honor. I’ve always been someone who enjoys using both sides of my brain. My job allows me to analyze, strategize, and negotiate while also building meaningful relationships.
What makes the local real estate market unique? Any trends buyers and sellers should know about right now?
Westchester County, particularly the Sound Shore area, is unique in that it thrives in any economic climate. Whether the market is booming or more balanced on a national level, the waterfront suburban lifestyle, highly-rated schools, charm, and convenience to New York City never lose their appeal.
People often talk about the “spring market” as the busiest time of year, and while it’s true that inventory peaks in the first half of the year, the local market has remained consistently active throughout the entire year. There are strong opportunities for both buyers and sellers through the fall and winter seasons as well.
What are some of your favorite family-friendly towns and neighborhoods in Westchester?
I love how each town in Westchester has its own unique personality and vibe. No matter where you settle, the sense of community is strong—even down to the neighborhood level. There are endless ways to connect and feel at home in your town.
Towns like Rye, Harrison, and Scarsdale offer incredible town clubs that residents can join, such as Rye Golf Club, Harrison Meadows, and Scarsdale Town Pool. Events like the Little League and Softball opening day parades bring people together in ways that remind me of my own childhood here.
Traditions like Rye’s Halloween window painting and Mistletoe Magic, when Purchase Street is closed down for holiday festivities, create lasting family memories. Many neighborhoods across Westchester are also known for their block parties and Halloween celebrations, fostering a real sense of community pride.
Wherever you choose to call home in Westchester, you’ll find something unique to love about it!
We love highlighting local businesses! What are some of your favorite spots in the Sound Shore area for dining, shopping, or family fun?
There are so many favorites—it’s hard to know where to start!
-
Dining: I frequent Fogama in Rye for sushi, Sherwood’s in Larchmont for the best ribs and BBQ, and Casa D’Italia in Harrison for unbeatable sandwiches.
-
Sweet Treats & Bakeries: The Snackery in Rye is a must for sweets, and The Kneaded Bread in Port Chester is amazing for breads and more.
-
Shopping: Palmer & Purchase (with locations in Rye and Larchmont) is my go-to boutique for shopping and gifts. Sammy + Nat has my heart for kids’ stuff.
-
Family Fun: The ever-expanding Children’s Museum on the boardwalk at Playland is a special place in a stunning setting on the water.
