Loving Larchmont: Where Coastal Charm Meets Commuter Convenience - Sound Shore Moms of Westchester

Amie Pisano, Sound Shore Moms’ local real estate expert, shares her take on the allure of Larchmont.

Larchmont is one of those Westchester towns that makes an instant impression. With its charming downtown, waterfront views, walkability, and small-town energy, it’s easy to see why so many buyers fall in love with it at first sight.  In my experience as a real estate agent, it consistently ranks high for families, city transplants, and anyone looking for that perfect blend of beauty, lifestyle, location and community.

Here’s why Larchmont is always a strong contender for buyers exploring the Sound Shore:

Walkability + Waterfront Living

Larchmont is one of the most walkable suburbs in Westchester. The heart of the village offers boutiques, cafés, restaurants, and salons which are all just steps from the train and many residential streets. That sense of convenience and connectedness is a major draw, especially for those making the move from the city.

Add in proximity to the Long Island Sound and scenic spots like Manor Park, and it’s easy to see the appeal of a town where you can grab a coffee, catch a train, and take in a waterfront sunset all in one day.

Some favorite downtown spots and local gems as you make your way through a day in Larchmont include:

A morning stop at Sunshine Coffee Roasters. Strolling and shopping with a stop at Palmer & Purchase, Love Bella and Village MercantileThe Makers NY by Moore and Michael Alexander Optical Boutique are also local parent-owned spots not to miss.  Lunch at Stan’z Cafe for incredible sandwiches and more, and Bradley’s Cafe & Desserts for brunch, lunch or a treat.

If you’re craving some self-care after lunch, there is no shortage of nail salons, hair salons, workout spots and more.  One perk of living in Larchmont is that you don’t have to travel to other towns for much of anything if you don’t want to.  Salon K and KOR Pilates are some local favorites.

Lenny’s Seafood & Steakhouse or Lusardi’s for date nights, Larchmont Tavern (since 1933!) for neighborhood comfort food, Encore Bistro for French-inspired brunch or dinner, or Sherwood’s for amazing ribs and wings.

Plus, the farmers market (Saturdays 8:30am-1pm), wine shops like Winetasters of Larchmont and Post Wines & Spirits (since 1934!), and specialty stores like the Larchmont Meateria, where many products are sourced locally and produced in small batches, keep food lovers happy.

Top-Rated Schools + Activities for Kids

The Mamaroneck Union Free School District is known for academic excellence, strong arts and music programming, and a commitment to student well-being. It even offers a dual-language English/Spanish program available via lottery.  The town’s Rec Department offerings are also robust. In town, you’ll find everything from soccer and lacrosse to sailing lessons through the Horsehoe Harbor Yacht Club at Larchmont Manor Park.

You’ll also find an array of enrichment options in town from music, dance and art classes to STEM camps at STEM Alliance, and an amazing indoor play space for the little ones at The Treehouse Play Place.

Fast Commute, Central Location

Larchmont is just about 20 miles from midtown Manhattan. From the Larchmont Station, Metro-North can get you to Grand Central in about 35 minutes during peak times. There are trains that go non-stop to Grand Central.

The Hutch and I-95 are also nearby, making it easy to get around the county or into Connecticut.

A Strong Sense of Community

Larchmont blends old-school neighborhood charm with modern energy. Families gather for seasonal events like the Ragamuffin Parade before Halloween, outdoor concerts, summer movie nights, a Memorial Day Parade, and Sleighbells on the Avenue in December. There’s a strong network of parent groups, nonprofit volunteers, and town traditions that keep the community close-knit.

The Larchmont Newcomers Club is active and thriving, reflective of the inviting community.

If you’re looking for a town with great schools, coastal beauty, and a true village vibe, Larchmont should absolutely be on your list. I’d love to help you get to know the area, from what’s on the market to which blocks have the greatest charm and walkability.
