By Amie Pisano
Amie Pisano, Sound Shore Moms’ local real estate expert—and longtime resident—shares what makes Harrison a standout place to live, learn and play.
My family has lived in Westchester for generations, and in Harrison specifically, for over 30 years. I grew up here in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and now I’m raising my child in the same community. As a local real estate agent, I work all over the Sound Shore, but Harrison will always be home base. If you’re exploring towns in lower Westchester, Harrison is one that deserves a spot on your list.
Here’s why families love it here:
Kid-Friendly Food + Local Favorites
From authentic Italian favorites like Trattoria 632 and Trattoria Vivolo to great Mexican at La Casa and the best sandwich spot around (shoutout to Casa D’Italia on Halstead!), Harrison has plenty of family-friendly dining. You’ll also find Greek, Japanese, Peruvian, Seafood and American restaurants that are casual, delicious, and perfect for takeout nights. Local grocery and specialty-store favorites include DeCicco’s and Graziella’s, plus Oishinbo for sushi lovers.
Easy Commute, Central Location
Need to get into the city? Harrison’s express train gets you to Grand Central in about 33 minutes. You’re also just minutes from the Hutch, 287, and 95, making this a very commuter-friendly town.
Parks, Playgrounds + Outdoor Fun
There’s no shortage of outdoor space in Harrison. The town spans 17 square miles and includes some of Westchester’s most beautiful parks, like Silver Lake Preserve and Cranberry Lake. West Harrison Park is a true neighborhood hub, with a playground, tennis, pickleball and basketball courts and ball fields. Kids also love the Ron Belmont Pool Complex with its water features and slides—and don’t miss Brentwood Pool, another favorite for summer fun.
There’s also rock climbing at Life Time, a ropes course at Boundless Adventures, and golf, tennis, and swimming at the Harrison Meadows Country Club, now town-owned and more accessible than ever.
Top-Rated Schools + Enrichment Opportunities
Harrison’s public schools are part of the Harrison Central School District, known for its strong academics and International Baccalaureate programs across all grade levels. The town also has a robust Recreation Department, offering everything from youth sports to summer camps and after-school activities.
Harrison is home to SUNY Purchase and Manhattanville College, which host year-round cultural events, family-friendly performances, and arts programming. The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College and the Neuberger Museum of Art offer accessible ways to expose kids to the arts without leaving town.
A Connected, Community-Minded Town
Harrison has a small-town feel with big-town convenience. From youth sports leagues and town-wide celebrations to library story hours and enrichment programs, there’s always something going on for kids. The Harrison Public Library offers a wonderful children’s section and regular events, making it a go-to for rainy days or quiet afternoons. And as a bonus, Wegmans is here now—making grocery runs just a little more joyful.
If you’re exploring the Sound Shore area, Harrison is one of many wonderful options—and I’d love to help you get to know them all. Whether you’re just starting your search or narrowing it down, I can guide you toward the right town or area for your lifestyle.
