Angie Boreland Love My Skin Founder

Our Meet a Mom series continues with this amazing local, entrepreneurial Mom, Angie Boreland, the Founder of Love My Skin.  Angie established herself in her career while also launching her own business on the side- all while taking care of her son at the same time. Originally from the South, she resides in Mamaroneck with her husband and son.  After hours of late nights, Angie turned this side hustle into a reality.  She launched Love My Skin just last week and we are so excited for you to try it!  It’s made from all-natural, unrefined and organic ingredients. The line is made for ALL skin types and she’s so excited to share her line with our community.  I loved getting to know Angie and I know you will too!  Check out our full interview below to find out what she loves most about our little pocket of Westchester, her favorite places to dine out and her best parenting advice.

Where are you from originally and where do you live now?

I grew up in New Orleans. I moved to Westchester 21 years ago. And now I live in beautiful Mamaroneck, NY

How did you decide to settle in the Sound Shore?  I absolutely love Westchester. I’ve worked for Westchester Magazine for the last 21 years. And throughout that time here, I’ve met amazing people, eaten at some of the best restaurants, and shopped in the best boutiques. I wouldn’t live anywhere else. The Sound Shore has all of those things within just a few mins of each other. It’s home.

How many kids do you have and what are their ages? My husband and I have one son, Maxwell. He’s amazing; he’s 3 ½ years old. What a fun age. He’s taught me so much in such a short time.

What do you love about living in the Sound Shore? Just look at how beautiful! We don’t have to even travel to NYC. We have a performing arts Center (the Emelin Theatre in Mamaroneck) a Michelin rated restaurant (Maria in New Rochelle), great Colleges for Max to aspire to attend, friendly people, the best shops, great parks, an entire amusement park (Rye Playland) and a beach!!!

What are your go-to restaurants and shops in the Sound Shore? I love Nonna Corola restaurant in Mamaroneck, Alvin’s restaurant in New Rochelle and Saltaire restaurant in Port Chester. I love the Rye Ridge Shopping Center. There are tons of great boutiques there, Lester’s, Shoe Inn and Mixology are a few of my favorites.

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? During the warmer months, you can definitely find us at Harbor Island Park on the weekends. We spend the entire day there, people watching, looking at the yachts, playing games and chatting about how we sent the week. During the colder months, we look forward to staying in watching our favorite movies and face timing with family.

How do you spend “me time”?  Since we are still practicing social distancing and quarantining, “me time” is spent at home baking, watching a great Netflix series, or reading about all-natural skin remedies and recipes to try at home like soaps, scrubs and moisturizers.

What inspired you to start your own skincare line? I’ve always hated my skin. I’ve had eczema, adult acne, oily skin, huge pores, hyperpigmentation and other skin issues my entire life. On the inside I was never really happy about the way my skin looked and what I was using on it. And then Max was born. When he was almost a year old, I had to take him to the dermatologist for his skin issues and rashes. I read the ingredients and I didn’t feel right about using so many products that I could barely even pronounce on his skin. There were products that had more than 20 ingredients in them and it really bothered me. That just didn’t seem right. So, I started by creating a moisturizers and body butters at home that only had 3-4 ingredients. And both of our skin loved it! After that, I started to expand to making soaps. And then I realized, I had something special here. Something that other people may enjoy, just as must as I did. Products that didn’t have a long list of ingredients. Products that are healing, effective and made of organic, all-natural ingredients.

What makes Love My Skin different? All products are handcrafted in small batches using organic, unrefined, all-natural ingredients infused with essential oils, herbal flowers, and beautiful healing crystals, like rose quartz. Love My Skin produces visible results without harming your skin, your health or the environment.

What is your daily skincare routine? I start with the Love My Skin cleanser. The cleanser can be used on your hair, body and face. In the shower or bath, once a week, I use the pink Himalayan sea salt scrub to exfoliate my face and body. After my shower or bath, I then use the Rich Healing Oil to begin putting the moisture back into my body. I want to glow! And this blend is very unique and known for its high vitamin E contents. I love it. I top the oil blend with the shea butter healing moisturizer. And throughout the day, I use the hydrating mist to keep my skin calm and glowing. The healing benefits to all of the products are unbelievable! All of the ingredients can be found on the website.

Which Love My Skin product is your favorite one? I love the cleanser! This cleanser is one of the most beneficial, yet unheard of cleansers you will ever find. It deep cleans the skin and is a natural exfoliate. It controls oil and acne breakouts with natural antibacterial properties. It’s made from dried plantain skins, palm leaves, cocoa pod powder, and kernel oil for an all-natural cleansing process. Plantain skins are what make this cleanser so effective. It is a natural source of vitamin A, vitamin E and iron. Cocoa pod powder is also added. Cocoa pod is the shell of the cocoa fruit and also has many natural healing properties. Cocoa pod is rich in antioxidants that fight harmful free radicals and can help to prevent premature aging and also contain anti-inflammatory properties that soothe eczema, acne and other inflammatory skin conditions. It’s a non-irritating cleanser great for all skin types.

Has COVID-19 impacted your professional and/or family life?  Yes, I’ve worked at home for the past 11 months, while Max is doing remote learning. It’s been very challenging. However, we are fortunate and blessed to be healthy and happy at home.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?  Select the things that matter most to you and make those things amazing! We are all so busy and pulled in so many different directions. Therefore, put your focus on things that bring butterflies in your stomach and a smile on your face. Those are the important things. Focus on what’s most important to your happiness.
