Meet a Mom: Katherine “Kat” Doherty | Sound Shore Moms of Westchester

Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in town?
I am originally from Hastings on Hudson, in the Rivertowns, where I was born and raised. My
family is deeply rooted in the community and goes back for generations. The majority of my
family actually still call Hastings home! After having children of my own, we moved to Rye, in
the Sound Shore region of Westchester (although I’m still in the Rivertowns everyday.)

 Child(ren) and age(s)?
I have two daughters: Kayla, 13, who is in 8th grade at Rye Middle School and Taylor, 10.5,
who is in 5th grade at Milton Elementary School. In addition, we have a fur daughter, Penny, a 3
year old Cavapoo.

What are your parenting goals?
My main parenting goal is for my children to be happy. While of course I want them to be kind
and succeed in whatever capacity that means for them, I really just want them to enjoy the
ride… and to know that I’m always there to celebrate life’s little and big achievements!

What is your favorite thing to do with your children?
Travel!! I love exploring the world with my girls and broadening their horizons. There is only so
much you can learn in school… I think our best source of growth comes from meeting new
people and experiencing new places. When we aren’t traveling, we love to play tennis, squash
or go to the beach together.

Anyone special you would like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
I am grateful for my village of moms in our community who never cease to amaze me. We are
always looking out for each other’s kids, but they go the extra mile to help this single, working
momma out! I am so thankful for the friendships, the playdates, the rides, and their endless
support of my business. And of course, I can’t forget my own mom who has always caught me
whenever I have fallen.

What do you do for work?
I am a real estate advisor with the Georgio Reddington Team at Compass in Westchester. We
represent all of lower Westchester and Greenwich. In addition to our local reach, we have
referral partners in the greater tri-state area and all over the US which provides us with the
ability to ensure our family, friends and clients are in the best hands at all times!

How did you decide to become a real estate advisor?
I originally wanted to be an architect and went to Roger Williams in Rhode Island specifically for
architecture! When I enrolled in classes, I changed my mind at the last minute and decided to
major in psychology and education. Long story short… I ended up with a Master’s in Special
Education and Psychology. I taught for years but after having my second daughter, I re-
evaluated my professional choices and followed my passion back to real estate. In the near
future, I plan to renovate and restore old homes.

How do you guide new clients who are coming up from the city or out of town?
This is really my niche. I am the founder of 411on914 which specializes in helping new families
find the town that is their best fit. Fortunately, I have lived in Westchester my entire life so I am
familiar with the nuances of the different neighborhoods and towns. This gives me a unique
ability as I am able to share my expertise as a native and local resident in the community.

How did you come up with the concept of 411on914?
I came up with the concept of 411on914 when I was trying to decide which town would be the
best fit for raising my daughters. Schools, town vibe, community amenities, recreational
activities, green spaces, etc. were all factors considered when making the decision. I know
Westchester like the back of my hand, so if I had a hard time, I knew it would be a really difficult
decision for those families that weren’t as familiar. That’s when I decided to be a resource for
other mommas who were looking to make the jump for their families and need help finding their
best fit.

We have to ask… how is the market?
The question I always get asked 🙂 The market is continuing to thrive… with limited inventory
and pent up buyer demand, we have found ourselves in an extended seller’s market. This
spring, I presume we will continue to see multiple bids on properties that are move- in ready and
priced properly.

Do you think there will be more inventory to come on?
This is the million dollar question! I certainly hope so. We have ready and able buyers
prepared to act quickly in all price points, in many different communities. If you are toying with
the idea of selling, now is the perfect time to reap the greatest rewards!

Best advice you have gotten?
The best advice I have ever gotten is from my professor in college who created an acronym that
I still live by today. MOOMBA! It stands for “My Only Obstacle Must Be Attitude” which reminds
me to keep a positive attitude throughout life’s biggest challenges.
