Meet a Mom | Katy Garry, of Katy Garry Fine Art | Sound Shore Moms of Westchester

This week we’re featuring local Westchester mom Katy Garry, the incredibly talented artist behind Katy Garry Fine Art.  It’s highly unlikely that you’ve scrolled through your Instagram feed without coming across her beautiful artwork on display in photos from your favorite Interior Design and Influencer accounts.  Katy is definitely someone to know and she’s certainly made a name for herself, locally and beyond, with collaborations with household brands like Peloton and The Skinny Dip Collective.  True to form, she also goes beyond the canvas and has fun with her talent- she loves painting murals (currently doing the garage at Hildreth Place) and pre-Covid she hosted a “Pizza Box Paint Night” with her favorite local pizzeria, Pizzeria La Rosa.  Katy is fun, colorful and inventive – just like her artwork!

Where are you from originally and where do you live now?

Born in Bronxville and a New Yorker through and through!

Did you always know you would come back to this area to raise your family?

I always wanted to live in Westchester but I needed a different town, a different chapter for our family.   I love all the towns in Westchester and it’s so great to be able to use them all.  It is really the “Bestchester”

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

Three children ages 9, 7 and 4.

What do you love about living in the Sound Shore?

The accessibility to New York, Long Island and Connecticut.   Quick trips to the beach!

What’s your favorite restaurant and place to shop in the Sound Shore?

Cantina Lobos in Pelham has the best Tacos and Margaritas! Everything is fresh and delicious.   For clothes and accessories Palmer & Purchase in Larchmont or Rye.

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family

Relaxing at the beach or laughing our way through a water balloon fight.  Anytime we are all laughing and having fun!

What’s your go-to thing to do when you need some “me time”?

Lately there really isn’t much “me” time… however, I love painting and spending time with girlfriends.
How did you become an artist?   It was always a part of me even from a young age.    I grew up admiring pop artists and respected how their work could make me feel.

How do you describe your artistic style?

Fun, bold, colorful, original and HAPPY!

What’s your favorite part of owning your own business?

Flexibility to manage my time and the ability to impact my experience.

How has COVID-19 affected your business?

Art can have an enormous impact on how you feel in your home.   Art should make you happy!  I recently launched a new website which has been helpful for people to search artwork at a variety of pricepoints and styles.    I also do custom artwork and loan artwork to families to make sure it is the right fit before they commit.   Collecting art should be an enjoyable experience.

How are you juggling work, homeschooling and caring for your children during this time?  Any tips for keeping it all together?

I have learned that schedules are meant to bend and curve.   We have to stay flexible.    No one has it all together, and laughter is the best medicine.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?

In DeCicco’s a mom I didn’t know looked at me struggling with my little ones and said “Little kids, little problems, Big kids, big problems.”   It stuck with me and makes me appreciate this time with them.
