Meet Dawn Hendricks, founder of Peridot Fine Jewelry in Larchmont. A longtime local mom and entrepreneur, Dawn launched her store over two decades ago and has since built a beloved destination known for its beautifully curated collection of fine jewelry. Learn more about her journey, her go-to styles for busy moms, and her favorite spots around the Sound Shore.
Where are you from, and where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Miami, Florida, and I live in Larchmont now.
How many children do you have, and what are their ages?
I have two daughters, 33 and 36 years old, and three grandbabies! My daughters grew up right here in Larchmont and now live in LA.
Peridot is such a gem in Larchmont! What inspired you to launch your own fine jewelry store?
I always knew I wanted to be in retail and was not sure what kind of store I wanted to open. Back in 2001, I saw a gap in the fine jewelry market and began seeking out emerging designers whose unique perspectives had yet to be represented.
What’s one piece of jewelry that every busy mom should have in her collection, and why?
Right now, it’s all about small gold hoops. The ‘click-on’ styles are especially comfortable and effortlessly pair with just about any necklace.
Peridot features about thirty designers. How do you go about curating such a unique and beautiful collection for your store?
It’s all about the curation, as you mentioned. We thoughtfully consider every piece we bring into the store, whether it’s $50 or $5,000, to make sure it fits our vibe and will resonate with our clients.
What’s the most rewarding part about helping a mom find that perfect piece of jewelry?
We take the time to truly understand our clients, their style, what excites them, and what makes them feel confident. Our goal is to guide them toward pieces they’ll love and live in, while also introducing unexpected choices they might not have picked themselves but end up adoring.
What’s a current jewelry trend you’re loving, and how can moms incorporate it into their everyday style?
Charma Charms Charms! We’re all about layering on the love- your child’s initial, their birthstone, a personalized calendar, or any charm that tells your story. The more meaning, the better!
As a busy mom and business owner, how do you balance it all? Any advice to other moms?
I opened my first store on Larchmont Avenue when my daughters were just 10 and 13. Looking back, I sometimes wonder how I managed it all- but with the support of friends, family, and some wonderful babysitters, I made it through. I did miss a few events along the way, but overall, I think my girls thought the business was pretty cool, and they were proud. My older daughter Jessica, now a young mom herself, launched her own jewelry line named Zahava in 2018.
What are some of your favorite ways to unwind and enjoy life right here in the Sound Shore area, whether it’s for fun activities, restaurants, shopping, or a little self-care?
For shopping, I love seeing so many women-owned businesses popping up around town. I’m always proud to support fellow female entrepreneurs.
My favorite ways to unwind? A walk on the Leather Stocking Trail or a great Pilates class at Sound Movement. For self-care, I head to Vision of Tomorrow or grab a green juice from Roots to Rise (right on our block!).
