Prom Prep: A Checklist for Parents | Sound Shore Moms of Westchester

Prom season is upon us! Here is our quick prom-prep checklist for parents!

The Outfit: For dress trends this year, look for embroidery, full skirts, off-the-shoulder, one shoulder, sequins, and two-piece dresses. Where to shop? Think AsosNordstrom or Modcloth. Have you heard of Rent the Runway? Be sure to have your teen browse their designer dresses for rent. With designers like Badgley Mischka and Monique Lhuillier, they will be smitten with the options. Need a tux? Trends include statement blazers, texture, and color. Where to shop? Macy’sMen’s Warehouse or Asos. Looking to rent? Try The Black Tux. And don’t forget the accessories. Shoes, jewelry, a purse or clutch, bow ties, ties, a pocket square and that’s a wrap.

Hair and Makeup: Make an appointment early and book a trial session. Don’t forget about nails and even a spray tan, which you may want to have your teen do a trial of as well.

Flowers: Don’t forget to order that corsage or boutonniere.

Transportation: Limo, party bus, trolley – prom transportation comes in all shapes and sizes. Try to book early, ask for a prom package and partner with other parents to reduce cost!

Pictures: Make sure your camera or phone is charged and ready to go. Find a spot outside where the light is bright but no one will be squinting. Shady areas work best. Keep it fun and informal. Make sure to snap candid shots, as well!

After-party: Many schools host school-sponsored after prom events. If your teen’s school does not host an event, or if your teen has other plans, communication is key. We found this article: 8 Rules to Help Parents Prep for Prom Night really helpful.
