#Support Local: 273 Kitchen | Sound Shore Moms of Westchester

Each month, Harrison Moms will feature a local business to help promote a stronger economic and social community, as well as preserve (and add upon) our towns one of a kind character and flavor.

And there is no lacking of flavor when it comes to 273 Kitchen! Our first and proudly recommended #support local restaurant is the creation of chef-owner Constantine Kalandranis, a Westchester Magazine top chef and true culinary trailblazer in our town.  Mediterranean and locally sourced, this eatery is always jam-packed full of people – no matter time or day –  and there’s good reason.  The food is phenomenal.

Raised in Astoria, Queens with deep Greek-American roots, Constantine’s love of food and cooking began at an early age and never wavered.  A Culinary Institute of America grad, he worked his way through many acclaimed restaurants before making his own mark via three New York based restaurants: 8 North Broadway (Nyack), Popojito (Scarsdale) and Harrison’s very own 273 Kitchen.

What made you settle on Harrison as your restaurant location for 273 ?

Harrison was one of those decisions that kind of got put in our lap.  A partner of ours and also a dear friend (as close to family as you can get), had a coffee shop that wasn’t doing what he wanted so we proposed making it into a restaurant…and this was the beginning of 273 kitchen!

How has the Harrison community responded ?

The community has been awesome, responsive and helpful in all areas of being part of a successful business.  We really feel like that this is the neighborhood where we really have our footing and are proud to do what we do for the people.

What role has your family, especially wife Johna, played in your success ?

My wife plays a very important role in all our business decisions.  She is a guiding light  for me but also has many years of restaurant experience and understands the involvement and current dynamics of the food business.  Most of all she supports all good and bad decisions we make and owns it.  She is a silent leader in the whole company.

My children help to show me the way by just being them.  I look at them and understand how important my decisions are and how these little people will ultimately be affected for better or for worse.  Both were born days before opening day of both of our restaurants…how is that for timing!!

Johna, a Westchester native, is also a Culinary Institute Grad (where the two met) and aside from raising their two children, handles all operations and special events.  Talk about dynamic duos!
