What made you want to open a bakery in Westchester, specifically Harrison ?
I currently live in Harrison. We are raising our children here and I wanted to be close to them. Plus, I really love the small town feel of Harrison but the convienience of being in the center of many other towns like Rye, Port Chester and White Plains.
How has the Harrison community responded ?
The community has responded very well to the bakery and has helped us flourish as a young business!
What challenges did you face when first opening?
I think the number one challenge I faced was getting our name out there. Word of mouth and social media are our primary sources of business. Getting people in to try our desserts and then parties, classes and camps was a challenge. But I believe that once people came in and saw what we had to offer we had an opportunity to grow.
What would you credit as a “key” to success in the local food industry?
I think the key is to listen to my customers. I am always striving to do my best and produce the best products I can produce. I value my customers opinions and suggestions. By listening to their comments I believe it helps make my bakery better.
Any additional advice to aspiring business owners?
Shop local stores. Work with the community. Find ways you can be a part of activities. And listen to your customers.
